2017-2018 FELLOWSHIP WINNERS

 

 

The Atkins Young Artists Program is proud to announce the six young artists selected for its 2017-2018 Fellowship Program at the State Academic Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, Russia. These gifted vocalists were chosen from an elite pool of talented young singers who competed in live auditions judged by an internationally distinguished panel.

The Atkins Young Artists Program received 114 applications from 13 countries for its 2017-2018 Fellowships at Mariinsky. 53 young singers were chosen to participate in the live auditions. The young artists participated in pre-audition training sessions with the Atkins Young Artists Fellowship professionals including Olga Kondina (voice), Peter McClintock (character study and development), and Maria Nikitina (Italian language and diction) and they had rehearsal time with accomplished Mariinsky Theatre opera coaches Yana Zubova and Elena Samarina.


The Final Audition Panel members included:


Maestro Valery Gergiev, Artistic and General Director of the Mariinsky Theatre, Artistic Director of the Atkins Young Artists Program at Mariinsky

Sarah Billinghurst Solomon, former Assistant General Manager for Artistic Affairs at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Artistic Advisor to the Atkins Young Artists Program at Mariinsky

Veronica Atkins, philanthropist, Founder of the Atkins Young Artists Program at Mariinsky, Board Member of the Metropolitan Opera
 

Members of the Atkins Young Artists Program Artistic Advisory Board, who attended the live auditions and participated in candidate screenings:


Eva Wagner-Pasquier, internationally recognized opera manager and consultant, worked at Bayreuth Festival, Vienna Staatsoper, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Bastille Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Teatro Real de Madrid, and the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence

Diane Zola, Director of Artistic Administration at Houston Grand Opera, joined in 2000 as the Director of the Houston Grand Opera Studio, an internationally acclaimed training program for young singers and pianist/coaches
 

Distinguished teachers and coaches, who attended the live auditions and participated in candidate screenings:
 

Olga Kondina, Mariinsky soloist, People's Artist of Russia, juror at international competitions

Peter McClintock, opera director at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, regular visiting coach at Mariinsky and the Atkins Young Artists Program at Mariinsky

Craig Rutenberg, former Director of Music Administration at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, pianist, accompanist, vocal coach and teacher of interpretation
