The Atkins Young Artists Program is honored to have Maestro Valery Gergiev as its Artistic Director of the Fellowship Program at the Mariinsky. Maestro Gergiev is committed to developing and supporting young classical vocalists and musicians and he has championed many young artists who’ve become stars.

Maestro Gergiev is the Artistic and General Director of the Mariinsky. Currently the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg performs at three venues – the Historic Theatre, the Concert Hall and the Mariinsky-II. The Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre located in Vladivostok, Russia, is a magnificent modern theatre with three venues the Great Hall, the Chamber, and the Summer Theatre.

Under Maestro’s leadership the Mariinsky regularly performs some seven hundred and sixty performances each season at home and is the most regularly touring company in the world.

Maestro Gergiev is currently a principal conductor with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Artistic Director of the White Nights Festival, the Moscow Easter Festival, the Mariinsky International Far East Festival in Vladivostok and co-chair of the organizing committee of the Tchaikovsky Competition. He also works with the Metropolitan Opera, the Vienna, New York and Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestras and the orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala among many others. The art and genius of Maestro Gergiev is well established and in great demand throughout the world.

 

 

 

The Atkins Young Artists Artistic Advisory Board

 

The Atkins Young Artists Program's Artistic Advisory Board under Maestro Gergiev's leadership selects individuals who will be awarded spots in the Fellowship Program subject to the final approval of the Foundation's Board of Directors.  The Advisory Board is composed of world renowned leaders in the world of opera including: Sarah Billinghurst Solomon,  Eva Wagner-Pasquier, Diane Zola, and Veronica Atkins.
